Venue Description
A glimpse of the past…a plan for the future!
Berryville is the seat of Clarke County, one of the smallest of Virginia’s counties, a largely agricultural area with a history rich in significance to our nation, a history that includes George Washington, the origins of our nation, and the Civil War conflict.
The barns of Rose Hill Park are two early 20th-Century dairy barns that were part of a farm estate donated to the Town of Berryville in 1964 by Mr. Horace Smithy, who had named the farm after his beautiful and beloved wife, Rosalie. And so Berryville won a lovely four-acre park that became a central focus of community activities through the years. As the town developed around the barns and park grounds, it was clear the old barns could contribute in a significant way.
Restored for a life of service, the barns offers a center for community, arts and education to the people of Berryville, Clarke County and the broader Shenandoah Valley.
Barns of Rose Hill, Inc. was formed in September 2004 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to raise funds for the restoration of the barns and to establish a program endowment.
